Ascribe The Glory Due His Name

I was doing some reading and came across the following verse, "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name." (Psalm 29:2a, NIV)  It was one of those times when I stopped reading any further.  The verse struck me hard.  I read it and reread it.  How was that even possible to give Him the glory due His name?  He is so holy, and I am so not.

I talked to my kids and my husband about the verse and found myself pondering and meditating on it for days.

As I turned the page to the month of May in my Jesus Calling devotional book, the verse that appeared on the front page was, "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;  worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." (Psalm 29:2, NIV)

There was the verse again.  OK, now He had my attention.  I knew after meditating on the scripture it was something I needed to learn.  A message He had for me.

While reading my chronological Bible several days later, I came across the verse again out of Psalms.  Three times I had read the same verse in less that a two week period.  The number three in the Bible signifies completeness, and I couldn't help but see the significance in that either.

I have to admit that when the Lord spoke to me to give Him the glory due His name three times there is an assumption that He would not be telling me this unless I were not giving Him the glory.  It has made me wonder in what areas I could or should bring Him glory.  What area in particular was I not giving Him the glory?  During my prayer time, the verse from 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) came to my mind which says, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

So, there it was.  I need to give Him the glory due His name in everything I do.  Whether I am working or speaking or writing, I need to give Him the glory due His name which by the way is huge and not always easy to do.  Through prayer, I am realizing that I could do this better in my work, my relationships, in my parenting, and in my marriage.  I could do better with my Facebook posts, my blogs, and the words I speak to unbelievers.  I could be better at hospitality and ministry.  So many areas to think and pray about, but it is exciting when God desires to speak.  The fact that He would even have the time to talk to me is so amazing, but He does.  He is an amazing God.

"Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;  worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." Psalm 29:2
